Kindness

The other day I read a
Science Daily article about acts of kindness. Something you probably
don’t often find in a science magazine!
John Cali
The
article talked about a well-researched study published March 8 by
the National Academy of Sciences.
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
“Good
acts — acts of kindness, generosity and cooperation — spread just
as easily as bad. And it takes only a handful of individuals to
really make a difference....When people benefit from kindness they
‘pay it forward’ by helping others who were not originally
involved, and this creates a cascade of cooperation that
influences dozens more in a social network. ... Humans form social
networks because the benefits of a connected life outweigh the
costs.”
The
world we live in today sometimes seems dark and dreary, especially
if you watch too much television or read too much mainstream news.
So that study is a refreshing “breath of fresh air.”
Chief Joseph once said this, in one of my favorites of his quotes:
“...every
human life you touch, from your inner place of peace, will be
transformed, even if only a little. That little transformation
will ripple out...like a stone thrown into a still pond. Until it
becomes a huge global and universal tidal wave of transformation.”
So I
asked him if he’d talk about this again today. Here’s what he
said.

You often feel powerless in your lives, especially when
you witness such events as the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile.
And, of course, as John said, if you pay too much attention to
television or the news. After all, they specialize in the “bad
stuff.”
But is
bad stuff all there is on your planet? Of course not. You know
that. But you often give too much of your time and attention to
it.
As an
“antidote,” if you will, we’d suggest you bring your attention and
your focus a little closer to home. In other words, bring it back
to yourselves.
We’ve
said this many times over the years, and we keep saying it because
you all need to fully integrate it into your conscious awareness:
One
person, standing alone in that centered place of peace and power
within, is far more powerful than millions standing together in
anger, bitterness, and hate.
One
person! You can be that person.
Every
thought you think, every word you utter, every deed you do has a
powerful effect on, first of all, yourselves. But it also affects,
positively or negatively, those immediately around you and far
beyond that immediate circle.
Now,
with the study John talked about, you even have a bit of
scientific evidence as to how powerful each of you is.
Take
some time to think about that. Perhaps do a bit of reevaluating
what you habitually think, say, and do — often without full
conscious awareness.
You
are all powerful beings of light. The energy you radiate through
your thoughts, words, and deeds does indeed ripple out to the
farthest reaches of your planet and the universe.
You
are that powerful, friends. Use your power wisely,
as you imagine God would.
For
you also are God.
