Flying West

from the April 2004 Star Beacon

by Ron Russell

A day after my birthday in early February, I went to California to help my sister die. She had battled cancer for 12 years, but in the final months it was relentless and took her. She had no wish to go beyond, so it was a tough month of daily counseling, endless love and exhausting work.

I read all manner of sacred texts for her: Jewish, Christian, Moslem, Hindu, and what she responded to most of all was Buddhist.

She died when our whole family was present, while looking into my eyes as I was telling her it was all right to let go.

Curiously, I felt nothing unusual then except profound grief. No lights, temperature changes or phenomena. But that night in prayer I asked her for a sign and she came to me quickly and said, “I’m very confused right now and I can’t yet communicate, but I’m all right and there are people here helping me.”

Two days later, my niece, Jennifer, her daughter, had a contact dream in which she came to us, looking radiant and young, and said, “This is so wonderful here, everything is all connected in the most amazing way. It’s more than I could begin to describe. I can’t stay with you now, but I can say that you will live to a ripe old age.” And with that she floated through the window and up.

During Claudia’s illness and confinement in bed, her cat would not go near her. Yet when she passed, he immediately jumped up and curled up by her feet. We thought this was odd.

Also she had asked me repeatedly for her Angel cards. I looked everywhere, to no avail. The day after her passing there they were, out in the open where I could not have missed them before. Strange.

She had been a TWA international flight attendant and a lifelong A.R.E. (Cayce) member. Now she’s flying west. She was a wonderful, vibrant woman and always my best friend. I remain vigilant for her further contacts. Please send her your good thoughts and prayers.
