Dear Mrs. De Boer,
I have finished a 209-page book titled Return To Terra. This wonderful book is by my mom, Ann Ulrich. It is a sequel to her first book, Intimate Abduction, and features a lot of characters: Johanna Dobbs and her alien husband, Serassan, are the main characters that live on another planet.
Johanna's brother is Manley Dobbs, and he runs a UFO Contact Center in De Kalb, Illinois, along with Barbara Wetzel, a psychologist, who helps Manley with the contact center. Kapri is a walk-in (extraterrestrial) and her memory, along with her mission, was erased.
Dorothy Meyers and her friend, Ellen, were driving through Nebraska and spotted a UFO. There also is Richmond Hayes; at the beginning he is a skeptic of UFOs. The setting is in the United States of America and the book takes place now.
In the beginning of this book, Dorothy and Ellen drive through Nebraska and see a UFO, then are stopped by a policeman after Dorothy is abducted and given a special gift.
Johanna is just getting used to her Estronian husband when Serassan's parents have to send Serassan back to Terra (Earth). Of course this is dangerous, but Johanna wants to see her home planet again. To make things worse, she learns on the trip over that she is pregnant.
Meanwhile, Manley is having a bad time with the contact center; dealing with crazy people is getting to him. All this comes together when Kapri comes into the UFO Contact Center and the Doomsday Device is planted by the MIBs in order to destroy Earth. Serassan and Johanna arrive just in time at the contact center, but Manley has left and Dorothy uses her gift -- telepathy. She finds the Doomsday Device and then Johanna, Serassan, Kapri, Manley and Richmond save the day through love and light.
The author was saying by the end of the book that love and light are the only things that can conquer hate. Hate cannot conquer hate. If you ignore hate, it is still there. Giving into hate really won't conquer hate. The only thing that can is love. If it was possible and everybody loved, our world would be perfect.
I think the title fits the book. It fits because, in the first book, Intimate Abduction, which describes being abducted, Johanna leaves Earth. Return To Terra means just the opposite. Since Terra means "Earth," then they are returning to Earth. And Johanna and Serassan, the main characters, do go back to Earth. The only exception is this time she wants to go!
After reading the first book, the only surprise in this book is that Johanna was pregnant with a human-Estronian baby. On Estron it is a custom to have a doctor, or healer, take the egg and care for it. On Earth having a baby is one of the best things that can happen. Johanna was from Earth and she wanted to have it herself. This was really DANGEROUS!!! The baby was a cross-breed and she was traveling to Earth! At the end the bad energy from the Doomsday Device hurt the baby and it ended in a miss-carriage. Bummer.
I liked this book a lot and thought it to be a real thriller. It combined action, science fiction and romance. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action. Also read her first book. Right now, my mom is writing a sequel and another book that is to be performed on tape.
