Colors of the World

An old man was sitting at the edge of the road, on the outskirts of town, when
a traveler walked by.
“Good day,” said the
traveler. “I was thinking about moving to this town, and was wondering if you
could tell me what the people are like who live here?”
The old man replied,
“Well, what were the people like in the town that you used to live in?”
“Oh,” said the traveler,
“it was really terrible! The people were cold and unfriendly, they talked
behind your back, and the crime rate was very high.”
The old man sighed. “I am
afraid that you’ll find the people of this town are the same way. You are
probably not going to like living here.”
With that, the traveler continued on his way. A short time later, another
traveler passed by.
“Greetings,” he said to
the old man. “I am thinking about moving to this town, and I was wondering if
you could tell me what the people are like who live here?”
Again the old man asked,
“Well, what were the people like in the town that you used to live in?”
“Oh,” replied the
traveler, “they were so wonderful! Everyone was friendly, kind and helpful. I
am really going to miss them!”
“Well, then, you are in
luck!” said the old man. “The people of this town are the same way! You will
love living here!”
In both instances, the old man was talking about the same town! Why did he
give opposite answers to the same exact question? The old man knew that the
way a person views the world colors their reality. Do you see the world as a
happy, friendly place, or do you perceive it as unsafe, cold and dangerous?
As creative beings
creating our own reality, you will always have ample evidence to support your
beliefs. When you focus on the negative aspects of life, that is exactly what
you will see. If, on the other hand, you look for the best in people, their
love will shine through. The phrase “I’ll believe it when I see it” should be
“I’ll see it WHEN I believe it!”
How you view the world is
a matter of choice. You can change your experience simply by shifting your
focus. Try to focus on the positive aspects of life. Count your blessings
every day. To quote a wonderful poster that I read the other day… “Life is
like a mirror. When you smile, it smiles back at you.”
