Spiritual Healing

          Living in this physical three-dimensional world, we tend to think of ourselves as bodies instead of spirit, which is the truth of our being. Our society has programmed us to believe in and actually embrace disease and illness. Health care is a multi-billion- (perhaps trillion-) dollar industry. Just watching television for even an hour proves this point. How many television commercials promote the use of drugs and chemicals to cure all our ills?
          The truth is, we are not human beings having spiritual experiences, but spiritual beings having a human experience. Being spirit, we are creative by nature. We create our own reality, both individually and collectively as a planet, by our thoughts and beliefs. Everything in the universe is energy and our thoughts are very powerful. All illness and disease begins in the energy fields surrounding our physical bodies.
          See if you can relate to this example: It is winter time. You are watching the news and the segment on “Healthy Living” comes on your screen. The reporter warns you that it is flu season again. The reported cases of flu are even higher than last year. They give you a list of all the symptoms. Next a commercial comes on advertising cold and flu medicine. Thoughts like these come into your mind: “Oh my God, I forgot to get my flu shot. I always get the flu this time of year. That lady sitting behind me at the movies yesterday was coughing right on me!” The next day, at work, you hear your co-workers saying things like “John is out with the flu today. Everybody is getting it!” All of a sudden, you realize that you do not feel so good!
          So what can we do? Overcoming the collective consciousness is not an easy task, as these belief systems are very engrained within us. It begins as a process of shifting our beliefs with positive affirmations and denials.
          Here are some examples of positive affirmations: “I am well. I am Spirit, a holy child of God. I am healed. I am whole and complete.” I AM statements are among the most powerful statements. They declare to the universe what is so. An example of a denial would be: “Illness has no power over me.” An excellent book on this subject is Heal Your Body by Louise Hay. In her book, Louise lists many common illnesses, the thoughts that created the illness, and a positive affirmation to change the thought pattern.
          It is also important to look deep within yourself to see if you are continuing to give the illness energy and thus reality. Is the illness serving you in some way? Are you getting sympathy and attention by having this illness? Are you holding onto any underlying guilt or self hatred? Are you trying to punish yourself in some way? The illness may be cured by medications and treatments for you believe that they will. If you do not change the thought patterns that created the illness, however, there is a good chance that it will return at some future date.
          Try sending loving thoughts to your body. Never put yourself down. Always remember that you are a child of God.
