Being the editor of a metaphysical
newsletter, I get quite a few requests to review people's books. And being a
slow reader -- due to having so many irons in the fire --means it usually takes
me weeks, if not months, to finish a book I've started. (I am still trying to
finish the last 150 pages of George R.R. Martin's 800+ page Game of Thrones
(book one), in order to sort out way too many characters after getting addicted
to the series on HBO.)
Last week an inquiry in my email
inbox prompted me to order David Young's book, Channeling Harrison. I
probably would have overlooked this one had it not been for the fact that I've
always greatly admired George Harrison, musician of Beatles fame, whose music
touched my soul over the years. I have learned a couple of his songs on the
guitar, and even as a 10-year-old child at the start of Beatlemania, George was
my favorite Beatle.
Frankly, I expected a "channeled"
book, like so many others I've read in all these years. This was not a channeled
book in that sense. It's a memoir, and it's very personal, poignant and
intriguing. As a matter of fact, I could not put the book down. I kept finding
excuses to take breaks and go sit in my living room corner… or retire early so I
could be alone with the book… and read it for over an hour.
It is one of the most fascinating
stories I've ever come across, and David Young's writing style is so authentic
and from the heart. I love a read that sails along, and the pace is just right.
Channeling Harrison came about
when George entered David's life during a time of devastating heartbreak. David
Young is a recording artist with 55 albums to his credit and he has sold more
than a million CDs. He plays two Renaissance flutes at the same time, in harmony
with one another, and his relaxing instrumental music is used by more than
10,000 massage therapists, spas, healing centers and hospitals all over the
world, to help people find peace in a stressful world.
The synchronicities are, at times,
overwhelming as you wonder, "How could anyone be bombarded with so much
proof?" Being a romantic suspense novelist, I was glued to his romantic
endeavors, particularly his attempts to win the heart of Marina, sort of a
"stepdaughter" of George Harrison. Although I was slightly disappointed that
they didn't get together in this first book, I am wondering what will happen in
the next book, which is already in the works.
This is an ongoing work, and if you
are one of those people who still questions whether there is life after death
(actually, life after life), then Channeling Harrison might just
be the answer that convinces you. I certainly didn't need to be convinced of
this fact, due to my connection with my late husband (who passed in 2008).
I've also been aware of more
synchronicities happening in my own life, as a result of this book.
